1. Functionality

2. Power
This may be a minor point to some but power of a machine reflects its ability in brewing temperature and speed in preparing the beverages. Recommended would be between 1,200 to 1,500 watts.
You might also want to look for on/off setting for the sake of energy savings in case the machine is not going to be in use when you’re away.
3. Size of Brew Cups
Another thing to look for is the sizes of cups that the machines allow you to use. Some machines offer just one size cup but others like Tassimo and Keurig enable you to brew from the smaller cups like 3,25 oz. to larger ones for travel mugs like 11.25 oz.
Different cup option would enable you to try out different brew strengths.
Water reservoir, another point that might be overlooked, would play a part, especially if you have two or three adults making beverages from the same machine. Having larger water reservoir negates the need to re-fill too often.
