Oppo BDP-95 Review
In almost any Oppo BDP-95 review that you come across, you would’ve most likely found the positive side to this product.
At a glance, the Oppo BDP-95 looks physically similar to the BDP-93. Although this is the case, the BDP-95 is actually the successor to the BDP-83 Special Edition – well, with the addition of 3D and streaming capabilities (instant on-screen access to VUDU, Netflix, Blockbuster on Demand, Pandora and YouTube).
Oppo BDP-95 Review – Product Specs
Most home theater enthusiasts have, by now, acknowledged the prowess of Oppo’s products since it introduced its first blu-ray player, the BDP-83.
The Oppo BDP-95 is no exception to this line of impressive blu-ray players by the relatively new company. If you are contemplating to get this product, knowing this though, certainly isn’t enough. The question is what sets this model apart from its predecessors and does its performance corroborate with its price tag?
Those who comment that BDP-95 seems to mirror the BDP-93 are not wrong in that the appearance of the two models are similar, right down to the video and digital audio circuitry.
In fact, from the rear, you would have spotted similar connections to the BDP-93 : dual HDMI outputs, component and composite video outputs, stereo and 7.1 analog outputs, IR input, RS-232, digital outputs, USB and eSata connections.
But as mentioned above, the BDP-95 is technically an offshoot of BDP-83 Special Edition, with Oppo claiming various component upgrades in the former that makes it different and subsequently, more superior.
Analysing the product, however, there are two features in Oppo BDP-95 that really sets it apart from its predecessor. And these are :
- The use of ESS Technology’s latest high performance 32-bit audio Digital Analog Converters solution – the ES9018 SABRE32 Reference DAC (one for the 7.1 output and the other for the dedicated stereo output). The incorporation of this chip is responsible for the superior analog audio output in this model.
- The inclusion of toroidal power supply custom designed by Rotel. For those who might not even include this feature as a criteria in purchasing a blu-ray player, it would be good to note that the increase in power supply can have a tremendous impact on analog audio performance of the player. Having such a power helps in eliminating interference from the source, resulting in greater sound quality.
So Which Amongst the Two?
As the Oppo BDP-95 and the BDP-93 seem to have similarities in looks and performance, it is understandable that most would-be buyers are torn between the two.
The ultimate decision is certainly yours to make but in this Oppo BDP-95 review, what we can advise is that if you are chasing after a superb analog audio output, then it is the model you want to get. But if you are just going to make use of digital outputs, then there’s no reason why you should go for the more expensive rather than the BDP-93.
